THE HORSE SANCTUARY

The Horse Sanctuary is a recognized 501(c)3 animal welfare non-profit that provides safety and rehabilitation to abused; neglected and slaughter-bound horses.  As a non-profit public charity, we rely on donations to rescue and care for horses saved from auction, kill pens and animal cruelty cases. When we save a horse, we quarantine them for 30 days to assess their health and treat any illness before we introduce them to their new herd and home on our farm in Germantown, NY.

When a horse steps off their freedom ride and arrives at The Horse Sanctuary, a peaceful space with chirping birds and rolling green pastures envelops them. Each horse meets our veterinarian who assesses their health; floats their teeth; vaccinates and deworms them. We then schedule a farrier to come and work on their hooves; and for horses who need extra attention as a part of their recovery, we ask our trainer to work with them regularly. Other needs are immediately addressed and met. No longer do these horses starve for food, care, attention or love.

Our paddocks allow each horse to decompress and reacclimate to other horses and humans in their own time.  We do not pressure horses to interact with each other or with humans; nor do we expect them to do any work here. Instead, we expect them to just be horses and heal from trauma at their own pace. As horses progress in their recovery, we encourage small, educational, on-farm visits so humans can connect with us and learn about each horse and their rescue story. Oftentimes, our guests leave here with a sense of peace and calm as well.

The Horse Sanctuary serves all members of the community regardless of age, race, color, religion, creed, citizenship status, marital status, sexual orientation, sex, gender identity, genetic information, national origin, disability, veteran status or any other protected status under applicable law.
